History
Take a photograph, it'll be the last
As the eldest of three children, Temari grew up having to be the "role model", the pillar of strength even in tough times. And considering her family, there were a lot of tough times. It started in her infancy, being taken away from her mother and father residing in the White Division, placed into an orphanage. From the start, she was an exceptionally fussy child, which at first could be forgiven as simply a baby's way, but as she grew into a toddler, still defiant, still mischievous beyond the normally forgivable, it was became evident that she was not a very nice little girl. She seemed to understand, early on, that she had been abandoned, and wreaked havoc, purposely breaking the rules purely out of spite. And yet still, this might be considered fixable, as it seemed unlikely she was cognitive of actually being taken away from her family.
And yet still, after three years spent in the orphanage, she was taken back to live with her father. At first, she didn't quite understand, but as she grew it became apparent-- her bad behavior, in itself, could be forgiven, but she would find out that she had two younger brothers, the other that she only ever heard described as a demon. Thus, by association, she was deemed more than just a rebellious youngster, and rather as something worse. Her childhood itself didn't seem to foster the chance to regain her purity, and she grew up slightly troubled. While her father had his reasons for residing in such a limbo, he was not quite abusive, but definitely strict. He commanded respect through fear of punishment, and the state of her broken family didn't help to sort her out. Some might call it a miracle, others might call it plain luck, but whatever it is, something helped her to persevere, and in some ways, she became stronger for it, learning to steel herself against the "bad things" in life, partially desensitizing her to crime and violence, while she still retained a relatively normal sense of right and wrong. It was a definite relief when her father left, when she was around fifteen, and she was free to assume him for dead. Certainly that was the rumor going around, and she was more than happy to believe it. But the damage was already done, to her person and her psyche, damage which could take years to reverse.
In the years following her father's disappearance, Temari has tried desperately to cope with every day life, battling with repressed memories that have a tendency to resurface, and horrible nightmares from which there are no escape. She has often been tempted to turn to the easy routes, to immerse herself in the world of the night-- clubs, drugs, parties, alcohol-- but logic has kept her on the path. What good is she to anyone, her brothers, her friends, if she incapacitates herself with such thing? Yet with each passing day, the underworld beckons, and each time it sounds minutely more tempting. She yearns to be closer to her brothers, for whom she cares deeply, but the tension between the three is an awkward barrier to breach, and she's not yet figured out the right way to do so. Upon declaring her independence, she found herself alone in the White Division, innocence of her childhood long lost, but not yet inherently evil.
Current Events
Not a dollar or a crowd could ever keep me here
As her desperation to find Gaara grew, Temari sent out an open invitation to anyone who could help her find her brother, making the mistake of offering "anything" in return for information. Her called was answered by a stranger from Cena, who she met up with that night. After conning her into posing for a few lewd photos, he informed her that he did not, in fact, know where Gaara was. Naturally, she was enraged, but there was little she could do, and so she went home, feeling humiliated, used, dejected, enraged, and more-over: frightened. Her first encounter in Cena left her with nightmares she would rather not have.
Ironically, soon after, she accidentally ran in to Gaara while inspecting a commotion at a local Italian café towards midnight. Gaara had been, it appeared, attempting to rob the place, and she managed to coax him back to her apartment, where she fixed him dinner and she made an attempt to "catch up" with him, although her efforts were mostly fruitless. She allowed him to stay the night and no further progress was made.
Unfortunately, she hadn't banked on the apartment security cameras catching when she brought Gaara in, and it wasn't long before she was notified that she was to pack immediately. In an effort to be rational, she actually complied for once-- never one to clash with the government-- feeling from the start that really, it was all a mistake. She did not feel that feeding and housing her own brother for just one night was anything that should be considered illegal. Legal battles are not won with fists, however, so she took the move gracefully with every plan to fight her battle logically, calmly, and rationally.
She managed to find a relatively decent apartment and met her new neighbors, Hidan and Kakuzu, the former of which (as far as she could tell) seemed to take a liking to her. And he seemed nice enough to her, not to mention he was, apparently, in the same predicament as she was. For all she could tell, he was just another innocent, and he seemed pretty willing to help her get settled in, the first act of which was helping her find a job.
Armed with a list of potential employers, she set out to find what she hoped to be her first job. The first name on the list led her to a photography studio, but she took the rational route and figured that there really couldn't be any relation to Sakon. She was, unfortunately, wrong, and he managed to coerce her--against her better judgement--to take up employment with him. She now works part time as a secretary, and part time as a pinup model, the latter of which has been winning her a bit of fame amongst those connoisseurs of adult magazines.
Two months into her stay in Cena, and not only was she beginning to think that her appeal to be moved back to Celo was not going to go through, but her little brother took it upon himself to defend their family's honor, namely by getting into a fight with her boss. The encounter left her slightly confused on a number of matters, namely her relationship with her brother, and her relationship with her boss. But it wasn't long before the fight and subsequent care she gave to Sakon that the fight served as a gateway to other problems that would arise in her life. And it wasn't much longer before she coerced her boss into bed.
The rather scandalous relationship led to a rather startling surprise shortly before her nineteenth birthday: she was pregnant with his child. She cursed herself, for the one time that she showed weakness and succumbed to desire, and something like that would happen. It must have been punishment from whichever forces guided her day to day life, but she came to the resolution that she was going to keep the child, whether he liked it or not. She didn't know if she would be a good mother, or how she could handle being a single mother if Sakon left her for it (which was more than likely) but she saw it as her one chance at salvation. Yet there was only one problem: she would never be allowed to keep her child. The government would take it away from her and place it in an orphanage. She wasn't having that, and in hardly a week’s time, she'd resolved a plan to escape to Ceno. It was risky, but she was going to have her way, like it or not.
It took a little convincing, but in the end, Sakon and Ukon helped her hop the border and set up residence in an apartment. Along with the younger twin, she took up a job at a local portrait and magazine photography studio, where she currently works under her rather peculiar boss. They try to live a quiet life as best they can, to keep attention away from themselves, lest they get caught and deported back to Cena. And with the revelation of carrying twins, the burden has become twice as heavy to keep her little family together.
Personality
I don't have a past, I just have a chance
Essentially, there are two sides to Temari: the side that those close to her see, and the side that everyone else sees. She has, from a young age, erected an emotional barrier against those she is not familiar with, and as such, can come off as cold, hostile, and even bitchy. It can be hard to breach this wall, as she is slow to trusting, and may even prove impossible for some people, should they rub her the wrong way too many times. While she can be civil with strangers, she rarely warms up to them, but if she absolutely needs something out of someone, she won't hesitate to state her true intentions. She doesn't lie unless she needs to, and in fact prefers to be as blunt as possible, when appropriate. She will have a short temper, and once she's lost it, her wrath is not something to be taken likely, as she will make life hell for whoever's annoyed her that far.
As for those close to her, such as friends and family, they see a very different person. She is genuinely caring for those she loves, and will go to great lengths to make them happy and ensure their safety. She still might seem a little rough and tumble, but it is much more obvious that she genuinely cares, and she's an unspoken advocate of "tough love". For these people, she would put her life on the line, and betray those who are not important. When it comes to those she cares about, she is not above blackmail, assault, or any number of unsavory things, although it has never come to something like murder.
Either way, she is a very proud person. She takes great pride in her abilities and often overestimates herself. When she fails, she can be a little too hard on herself, seeing failure as the ultimately worst thing that can happen to anyone. She doesn't take well to losing, even in little things like card games, although she doesn't beat herself up as much over trivial things, than she does over falling short of someone else's expectations. She wavers between high self-esteem and a negative self-image, depending on what is going on in her life, but she always manages to bounce back from her bouts of depression, often with a renewed determination, and such low points do not happen all that often.
With the move to Ceno and impending motherhood, Temari has lightened up ever so slightly. She is purposefully less abrasive than she used to be, in an attempt to blend in with the crowd, and does rather well at it. She still feels a sense of anger sometimes, but she has learned progressively more and more to quell her temper and her bluntness. She mimics those she sees in their over-politeness, but she hates every second of it. She feels that it is a complete lie, but as any mother would, she puts her children above herself.
